This talk will take the time to provide an overview of the energy and socio-environmental impacts of large scale distributed systems. We will address the challenge of estimating environnemental and societal impacts of such technologies and services. We will also discuss the many facets of research avenues and solutions for both proactive and reactive measures, ranging from eco-responsible digital technology to digital sufficiency.
